Our History 


Cairns Eye and Laser Centre evolved from the Cairns Eye and Laser Clinic as a centre of excellence with strong traditions of innovation and exceptional patient care. The tradition in innovation originally commenced in 1980 when the first modern day cataract surgery in Australia using small incision phacoemulsification with lens implant was performed locally in Cairns, by Dr Jim Peters.

Since that time the doctors now working at Cairns Eye and Laser Centre have continued in this vein delivering numerous innovations using the latest technologies for the Cairns community and the surrounding regions of Far North Queensland. Such advances have Included (but are not limited to) the following firsts for the people of Cairns and the Far North:
